somewhere around third grade, you signed something.

it said: you may rest when you catch up.

you have been paying on it ever since. every saturday you sat down and got back up again. every night you kept going because the list wasn't finished. every year, a little more interest.

i want to tell you one thing about that contract.

nobody else signed one.

you were the only party to it. you enforced it, you collected on it, you never missed a payment. and the terms were impossible from the start, because a list like ours does not finish. rest priced at "when you're caught up" is rest priced at a number that does not exist.
